South Korea

South Korea arrive at their twelfth consecutive edition of the tournament, the longest active streak in Asia. After the disastrous Asian Cup exit under Jürgen Klinsmann, Hong Myung-bo — captain of the legendary 2002 semi-finalist side — returned to steady the ship. Son Heung-min anchors the squad as captain at age 33, with Tottenham's pace still intact. Lee Kang-in (PSG) is the creative engine; Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich) is one of the best central defenders in Europe. Group A places Korea against co-host Mexico, Czechia, and South Africa. Knockout-round qualification is the floor; Korea's top-end has the talent to push deeper if Son stays fit and Hong's organisational discipline holds.

Czechia

Czechia return after missing the 2022 edition, restoring continuity to a footballing tradition that produced Czechoslovak finalists in 1934 and 1962, and a Euro champion in 1976. Ivan Hašek, hired after the Euro 2024 group-stage exit, has prioritised pragmatism over flair. Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen) provides the goal threat — when fit, his record ratio for the national team rivals any striker in Europe. Tomáš Souček remains the West Ham midfield engine. Group A draws Czechia alongside co-host Mexico, South Korea and South Africa — three opponents that vary wildly in style. The squad's ceiling is realistic Round-of-32 progression; anything beyond would be a shock.

Estadio Akron

Estadio Akron hosts four group-stage matches in 2026 — its first major-tournament hosting role. Located in Zapopan, in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, the venue opened in 2010 as the home of CD Guadalajara (Chivas), one of Mexican football's most storied clubs. Capacity is approximately 49,800 — the smallest in the tournament. The pitch is natural grass. Climate: Guadalajara sits at 1,560 metres altitude with mild summer temperatures (22-28°C) and noticeable evening cooling — a more temperate environment than Monterrey or Mexico City. Daily afternoon thunderstorm risk is real during the rainy season. Guadalajara is the heart of mariachi, tequila, and traditional Mexican identity, giving Akron the most culturally distinctive setting of the three Mexican host venues.
