When the Leopards last appeared at a World Cup it was 1974, the side wore the name Zaire and Mobutu sat watching. Fifty-two years on, DR Congo arrive in North America as a different animal: a quick, Europe-based group that has stopped being a footnote. Sébastien Desabre, the French coach in charge since 2022, proved as much by steering them to the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final in 2024. Up front Cédric Bakambu leads the line, with Yoane Wissa's running off Newcastle and Silas Katompa's pace from the flank giving them a cutting edge, while Chancel Mbemba anchors the back.
