Canada

Canada arrive at the 2026 tournament as one of three co-hosts, fresh off a 2022 group-stage debut that ended without a single point. The intervening four years saw a generational leap. Alphonso Davies anchors the left flank from Bayern Munich; Jonathan David is the goalscorer Belgium would love to claim. Stephen Eustáquio orchestrates from midfield. Toronto and Vancouver host their group games, fueling expectation that Canada can do what their senior side has never done: reach the knockout phase of a major tournament. Group B alongside Bosnia, Qatar and Switzerland is winnable; the home crowd at BMO Field on opening night will demand it.

Qatar

Qatar return as second-time entrants, looking to redeem the disastrous home tournament of 2022 where they exited with three losses, the worst host record in history. Marquez Lopez has stabilised a squad blessed with continental dominance — back-to-back Asian Cup titles in 2019 and 2024 — but historically untested at the global level. Captain Akram Afif, voted the 2024 Asian Cup MVP, is the creative engine; striker Almoez Ali brings the goal threat. Group B alongside Canada, Bosnia and Switzerland gives Qatar a winnable path on paper, but history weighs heavy. A first-ever tournament point — let alone a knockout-round appearance — would already redefine the program.

BC Place

BC Place hosts seven matches in 2026, including round-of-32 and round-of-16 fixtures alongside Canada's remaining Group A schedule. Located in downtown Vancouver, the venue opened in 1983 and was extensively renovated in 2011, when its retractable cable-supported roof was installed. Capacity for football is approximately 54,500. The pitch was reconverted from artificial turf to natural grass for the tournament. Home to the BC Lions Canadian football team and Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS), it has decades of major-event experience. Climate: Vancouver summers are the mildest among host cities — 18-23°C with low humidity and consistent fine weather along the Pacific coast. The retractable roof handles the rare rain. Vancouver's extensive Asian Pacific population (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Indian communities) gives BC Place strategic appeal for AFC contingents and Pacific-rim travel.
