Türkiye
Twenty-four years in the wilderness end here. Türkiye have not graced this stage since the summer of 2002, when Hakan Şükür, Hasan Şaş and Ümit Davala carried the country to a semi-final and third place that still feels like a fairy tale. The return is built on something genuinely new: a golden generation. Vincenzo Montella, kept on after the run to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, has given the side an attacking, possession-minded shape, with Çalhanoğlu setting the tempo from deep and two creators in their early twenties, Real Madrid's Arda Güler and Juventus forward Kenan Yıldız, pulling the strings ahead of him. In Group D, with the United States, Paraguay and Australia for company, a top-two finish is the target, and knocking out a seed beyond it is not fantasy.
