Scotland versus Brazil

Scotland

Scotland return to football's biggest stage after a 28-year absence, the longest gap in the country's tournament history. Steve Clarke has built a structured, defensively disciplined side that punched above its weight in Euro 2024 qualifying — including a 3-0 demolition of Spain at Hampden. Andy Robertson (Liverpool) captains from left-back; Scott McTominay's move to Napoli has unlocked his attacking output; John McGinn provides energy from midfield. Group C with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti makes survival ambitious — Brazil and Morocco are heavy favourites — but the Tartan Army travel in numbers, and a result against Haiti plus a draw against Morocco could yield the points needed for a knockout-round qualification.

Brazil

Brazil arrive as five-time champions and the only nation present at every edition of the tournament — 22 in a row. After the 2022 quarter-final shock against Croatia, the federation made a historic move: Carlo Ancelotti became the first foreign manager in Seleção history. The Italian inherits a squad bursting with attacking talent: Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid), Rodrygo, Endrick, and Raphinha. Casemiro and Bruno Guimarães anchor the midfield. Group C with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland looks straightforward, but Brazil cannot ignore Morocco — the 2022 semi-finalists who proved African football has closed the gap. The expectation is hexa: a sixth title, the one missing trophy of the modern Brazilian narrative.

Hard Rock Stadium

Hard Rock Stadium hosts seven matches in 2026, including a quarter-final, and serves as the South Florida hub of the tournament. Located in Miami Gardens, north of Miami proper, the venue opened in 1987 (extensively renovated in 2016) and seats approximately 65,000 for football. Home to the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Open tennis tournament, it has decades of major-event experience. Climate is the chief variable: South Florida summers combine extreme heat (33-35°C), 80%+ humidity, and the highest thunderstorm-risk window in North America. The stadium's open-roof canopy provides spectator cover but does not enclose the playing surface. Miami's Spanish-speaking population — over 70% Hispanic — and direct flight access from Latin America make Hard Rock the natural staging ground for South American supporters during the group stage.
